You have to give them credit for losing any weight at all. They must do it because they most likely will suffer an eating disorder for the rest of their life, so the surgery helps them eat less.

It’s because they usually lose that weight in the hospital and it’s just to get them down to a weight that’s safe. Left on their own again in the real world won’t solve their over eating problems more then likely they’ll revert back to them. If they have the surgery they are physically unable to start over eating to that degree again.

I reckon you may be confused about this. In order to qualify for gastric bypass, a person must be clinically obese and unable to loose weight after serious efforts.

I have heard of people purposely gaining weight in order to qualify.

  4. SLEEP IS FOR SISSIES says:

Well some stout people have to really gain weight to be able to get the gastric bypass surgery, because you have to be at least 100 pounds overweight to get that.

  5. Breezer says:

Don´t you have to be of a certain weight to really have the surgery because of complications that can arise during surgery for overweight people?

I agree that they should keep up the excellent work and prove they can do it on their own, but some people use this surgery as a cop out.

I´ve struggled with my weight all my life and know if I don´t eat right and exercise I gain weight, and some people use the simple way out. These people end up gaining the weight back because eating is also a habit and a social thing, and when you cannot eat as much as you used to you feel deprived.

Yes, I feel terrible for people that are so heavy surgery is needed because even at the weight I am now I have health issues and body image issues so I feel terrible for people.
