It is impossible to have Acid Reflux after surgery. The stomach pouch does not have acid in it all. There is no way for any acids to creep out since there aren't any there. The remaining original stomach does have acids in it. Those acids meet up with your food int he small intestine to aid digestion.
If you had a hernia prior to surgery, they would've corrected it when they did your surgery. You only have a very small pouch, not enough to herniate. The only way you could herniate at this point is if you have eaten so much that your pouch has stretched to the max.
Are you sure this is Acid Reflux? You may be overeating. The pain from overeating is very, very similar to Acid Reflux pain.
More than anything else, see your surgeon. They can do an ultrasound and tell you for sure what is happening.
Lorna: I can tell you that they wanted to give me the surgery for reflux.
I stayed on Zantac(300mg) for 15yrs. I no longer take the 300's I only take the otc 75mg everyday. My Dad did have it done and he has had no problems at all. The thing is that you must have someone who knows what they are doing – if they tighten it too much you will have a hard time swallowing for very long time. My Dad had to have the opening expanded after the surgery, they use what is like a latex sock and pour merckury into it and let it go through the opening and then they pull it back through to expand the opening. That is what I thought to be the most perilous part of the whole thing.
I can tell you that after all that he does still have to watch what he eats to avoid acid reflux. I rarely have reflux any more I just keep taking the zantac for maintainence. Hope this is helpfull…Jon
there is a surgery called a fundoplication or nissen surgery. during this surgery the upper curve of the stomach (the fundus) is wrapped around the esophagus and sewn into place. this strengthens the valve between the stomach and the esophagus which stops acid from backing into the esophagus so easily and allows the esophagus to heal. you can find out more info on webmd
Yes, it will help. Acupuncture is real, it doesn't just "fool the body into healing itself." It doesn't fix it instantly, but it will help.
