Completely depends on whether the patient has complications. I had it done 3 years ago…absolutely no complications..total cost was about $30,000

1. It is much, much healthier if you lose weight the ancient fashioned way — diet and exercise.
2. It is much, much cheaper for the insurance company if you lose weight the ancient fashioned way.
3. If you're not going to diet and exercise after the surgery, you may eventually gain weight back anyway.
4. The surgery often has lots of complications, which cause more health problems.
5. The complications also cost the insurance company more money.
So, yeah, you will have difficulty getting insurance to pay for the surgery, but if you persist, and if your doctor is willing to fight with the insurance company, you may get it paid for.
It is obvious from your well-written question that you are a very intelligent person. Please do a lot of research into this before you have major surgery.

Any kind of surgery is invasive and perilous. I would recommend trying dieting and eating correctly rigorously before taking on any kind of surgery. If successful it would save you a lot of money, and recuperating time. Plus by starting a healthy lifestyle now you have a higher chance of continuing that lifestyle for the rest of your life, instead of relying on quick, expensive fixes.

I lost 80 pounds and i run miles a day and girls talk and look at me SOOO much differently now.
Immediately following surgery, you can only tolerate a couple ounces of food at a time but as you progress, you can eat more. You must drink water..lots of water. Around 60 oz a day! You also must take multi-vitamins daily. I had my surgery in Oct 2007. I can eat a cup of food at a sitting but I eat 6 small meals a day. 1000 calories a day. I walk 5 miles per day. I've lost 150 ponds and onyl need to lose another 15. I live every day to fullest because I can!!
I woundn't go and see a surgeon unless he/she would try submitting it to the insurance co. In some cases, insurance companies will cover a tummy tuck (for the reasons you are having the tummy tuck, it is called something else…I can't remember what it is called) if you have problems such as sores or irritations due to the excess skin.
