I would like to hear from people who have had gastric surgery please?

I am seriously considering gastric surgery because I am twice my normal size now because of a thyroid problem that has since been taken care of. I am very concerned with the risks, but also want to know about the process and what to expect from those who have gone through it. Please tell me what you know about this, ok? and PLEASE I don’t want uninformed or ridiculous answers here.. this is very serious and I am quite worried about this. Thank you in advance for your considerations and help.
Just an additional note: I didn’t consider this myself, it was strongly suggested by my physician. I resisted even a consultation at first, but now have agreed to a consultation with the surgeon. I do know all the ramifications, ie. diet and exercise, etc. I am also curious about what was involved in the surgery process.. preparation procedures and recovery process, for instance.

I have 2 friends who had this surgery.
one loved it, she lost weight. Had a normal, healthy pregnancy, lost again. Did wonderfully.
The second was a co-worker. She used to sit and weep about not being able eat more. She was extremely miserable, but for her, food was an emotional thing, and she has continued to lose, but she is very miserable.
So, consequently, I believe that your emotional well-being is the most vital, with weight being second.
    Excellent luck.

my mother and sister have both had gastric bypass surgery. in the surgery the dr will remove part (most) of your stomach – so that there is enough left to hold a couple ounces. they also cut the small intestine then attach it to the new stomach pouch. alot of drs are doing the surgery laproscopically so that you don’t have to be cut all the way open. this just involves a couple very small incisions. after the surgery, for the first few weeks, they want you to eat just a small bit – we’re talking like an ounce of jello – things like that. then you can proceed on to pureed foods – then finally to “normal” foods again. you just can’t eat as much as you did prior to the surgery. they also recommend that you eat several small meals a day rather than a couple large meals. i know with my sister – she found that she couldn’t drink very much with her meals because the fluids filled her up so much – so you might have to drink in between meals. but you need to keep your body nourished well – since the stomach is so much smaller – the food doesn’t stay in your body as long – and doesn’t have as much time to absorb all the nutrients the body needs. drs recommend taking vitamins after the surgery to help with this. if your really considering this – make an appointment with your family physician. once he agrees that this is a excellent choice for you – he will give you a referral to a surgeon. once you visit with the surgeon and discuss the surgery with them, they most likely will have you go for a psych test(don’t worry – this is pretty standard) – they just want to check your emotional state, and make sure that you want the surgery for the right reasons. If you are really serious about losing the weight, this could be a fantastic option – but you have to be completely devoted to the new lifestyle. i wish you all the best and excellent luck with your choice.

my mother in law had that surgery she is still loosing weight .
you have to have in mind the you will need other surgerys further on like plastic reconstructive surgery and you wont be able to eat like a normal person anymore.
It has pros and cons but your health and hapiness is first.

Gastric Bypass Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very well-known in India that arranges obesity surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient tales.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as obesity surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your lobesity surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.hope this helps.
My cousin got her gastric bypass surgery in India-and paid just 25% of the cost what was quoted to her in USA.She is more than very pleased wih the results and the kind of treatment she got in India. She is just all praise for this forerunners healthcare compnay, the services and facilities. She got it done in January and has already started showing wonderful results.she has lost 35lbs since then
