Mine took about 3 hours that was when I was 18 so a few years back now and apparently that’s a pretty average time. And I did have sever gallstones I nearly finished up having emergency surgery.

I read it was only supposed to take 45 minutes to an hour.

I’m supposed to get mine removed also. I’ve done alot of research on it. Lol.

Mine was removed and I was in and out of surgery within 45 minutes. I spent over 30 minutes in recovery though because my blood pressure dropped and I was shaking uncontrollably from coming off the anesthesia. But I was also 19 weeks pregnant at the time.

I am going to forewarn you of that after as it was all a shock to me! There will be 4 incisions made, one above the belly button, one under and between the breasts, and two running along the right side down to near your waist. They will be small, and if you are like me they will scar, but its not too terrible. If you go to a EXCELLENT hospital they will keep you until you can hold down something and are managed on pain meds. I went to a TERRIBLE place, they told me I could eat and gave me heavy foods and I threw up all over myself because I couldn’t get out of bed (had the blood clot prevention wraps on). Took the nurses 2 hrs to come help me up and get cleaned, they sent me right home. I had to stop to vomit 3 times before I made it home, a whole 5 miles! Sooo moral of that is don’t eat after, if you do make it LIGHT foods. And for the first few days keep it light and more like a diet BEFORE surgery (no butter, fats, etc).

You will have pain for a number of days, it will even hurt to go to the bathroom just for the shear twisting to wipe and such. I found using an ice pack helped dramatically and sleeping propped up on pillows worked wonders too.

Excellent luck! Its not fun to recover from but boy its soooo worth it compared to gall bladder attacks!

Ok girls, you dont got to rub it in about your age.. ( I am really kidding), but I am 40, had mine removed 3 years ago,, it took just over 2 and a half hours.
I really was joking about the age remark. I really would prefer to know one’s age before answering.
I did not have gallstones, I was just getting sick a whole lot, greasy foods, and not just greasy foods either. Most any food made me sick.
I reckon it depends on (like you already said) if they are inflamed, or if the dr.’s have to work around something else, Nothing major though. But, I would not worry, my friend’s took only like an hour. I am sure it varies on the person.
